Tamara Oakley: A passion for people, drive for success.

BeLocal Magazine 2020

Tamara Oakley is one of the top Real Estate agents in Central Ohio and she has been a “Star” since the day she was born. Well, almost. Tammy, as she is known by friends and family, had not been named when she came home from the hospital two days after her birth. Her family struggled to find the perfect name for their new baby girl, but they would soon find inspiration waiting in the sky above.

As the story goes, Grandma Maggie was rocking her newborn granddaughter on the back porch of their home on a warm summer night when she glanced up at the night sky and quickly noticed a star shining with intense brilliance. In an instant, she knew her granddaughter should be named after the brightest star in the sky. Grandma Maggie named her new baby girl Tamara Star and she has been living up to this moniker ever since.

Tammy grew up in Wooster, OH. Always a big personality with a passion for people and experiences, Tammy was involved in various clubs and sports activities including volleyball and drama club. At 13, Tammy’s father was transferred to Michigan, where she spent her high school  and college years. Upon graduation from Western Michigan University, she moved back to Wooster…Ohio was calling her home.

She put her Business Management degree to use as an executive assistant. The business world was effortless for this ambitious talent. Tammy quickly rose through the ranks to the human resources department where she found a balance of challenge and satisfaction. In a bit of  foreshadowing, Tammy spent years at one of Central Ohio’s largest homebuilders, Dominion Homes (now Pulte), where she learned the ins and outs of the real estate industry from the builder’s perspective. She moved on from Dominion, and after 6 years in HR at Scott’s Miracle Gro, Tammy realized her passion for this type of work was fading.

Tammy loved talking to and supporting others, and she had an unrealized interest in sales. She really enjoyed the time she’d spent in the housing industry, so when a friend suggested that she try real estate Tammy jumped in with both feet. It turned out this work fit Tammy to a tee, blending her love of sales, customer service/support, negotiating, and coaching. Becoming a REALTOR® reignited her spark and it hasn’t dimmed in over 15 years.

What started out as a second income in 2004, became a full-time gig in just six months! She was awarded Coldwell Banker King Thompson’s first Rising Star award and has placed among Coldwell Banker King Thompson’s top 10 agents year after year. Tammy is also a member of the firm’s International President’s Club Elite. Most recently, Tammy was named one of NRT’s top 1,000 sales associates for the second & third quarters of 2019 out of more than 50,000 sales associates across all NRT brands. Tammy is also a relocation specialist, working with transferees to and from many of the large corporations in Central Ohio, including the U.S. Military.

Tammy’s professional accomplishments are well known, and this success is fueled by her big, passionate heart. She quietly supports numerous charities and is known by friends and co-workers for her thoughtful, supportive nature. Her loyalty and care extend to her clients as well. Buyers and sellers alike know that when they work with Tammy they will be the beneficiary of her honest counsel and fierce commitment to their best interest. As a testament to this commitment, nearly 70% of her business comes from repeat or referral clients, and she is proud to say that many of her clients have become close friends.

Tammy has lived in Union County for 28 years. She loves her work and can’t imagine doing anything else, anywhere else. Tammy and her husband Glen, a recent Honda retiree, live in East Liberty with their pampered pooch Sophie. They have two adult sons who live in Ohio, one at Indian Lake and the other in Tammy’s hometown of Wooster. They love traveling alone and with their travel team, “The Garage Squad,” made up of a close-knit group of friends and family members. If not racing from showings to closings or navigating contracts, you will find Tammy cruising the backroads with Glen on their Harley or soaking up the sun at Indian Lake.
